Dr Asha's Philosophy Towards Treatment

After performing hundreds of Profhilo treatments I can now safely say that this treatment alone has revolutionised my aesthetic practice. The results are so transformative, yet incredibly subtle. Known as the ‘injectable moisturiser’ – the radiance achieved from this treatment alone is like no other.

I actively encourage people to seek independent medical advice before committing themselves to treatment. Questions are always encouraged and I am happy to carry out any facial treatments once my clients are fully educated about all the options.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS —

Profhilo is an injectable treatment that cleverly delivers one of highest concentrations of hyaluronic acid  on the market – (a substance that naturally occurs within the skin) into the skin.

It is injected into five specific areas of the face (on each side) and ten total points on the neck – these points are known as the bio aesthetic points.

BAP protocol for profhilo

These BAPs are specifically designed to ensure that the product diffuses across the widest sections of the face so that the best results can be achieved with the least possible injection points and therefore less discomfort.

Although hyaluronic acid is also the main ingredient within dermal filler, Profhilo varies greatly in that the hyaluronic acid is uncrosslinked meaning that it is fluid. Instead of adding structure and definition like conventional filler, this injectable hyaluronic acid integrates naturally within the skin to stimulate four different types of collagen and elastin – crucial structural elements for skin health.

There is also a gradual release of hyaluronic acid which boosts the hydration of the skin.  As a result, there is bio-remodelling of the different skin layers, leading to a transformative effect on the quality and appearance of the skin.

I’d even go as far as saying it’s more of a skin treatment as opposed to a traditional aesthetic treatment

Profhilo is an anti-ageing treatment that can be used to treat skin laxity (loss of firmness and structure) and to improve the appearance of fine wrinkles and crepey skin. It is also successfully used to help hydrate the skin in those suffering from dry skin.

Overall it is a wonderful treatment for those who are seeking natural results and an improvement in all-over firmness, elasticity, and brightness through deep hydration

My experience indicates that this would be a great treatment for anyone beyond 30, but particularly those between the ages of 40-50.

As we age, the presence of hyaluronic acid in the skin naturally starts to drop, which causes the skin to lose its natural firmness and elasticity. Most people begin to see the visible signs of hyaluronic acid depletion as they reach their 30s.

It especially great for those who are on the fence about aesthetic treatment and wary about altering their appearance. I can reassure you that Profhilo does not restrict movement or alter your face structure or shape, there is no risk of looking puffy or overdone.

Instead what you can expect from Profhilo is firmer skin, softer wrinkles and improved hydration – therefore allowing your natural beauty to shine through.

Although it is suitable for every skin type, as it does really help to hydrate it is great for those who suffer from dry skin.

Profhilo is commonly used to treat the face and the neck.

Frequently clients request a combination of face and neck treatments after seeing the impressive results achieved by treating the face alone.

Other areas I treat include: the décolletage and hands.

Following the consultation and completing the necessary consent process including pre-treatment photographs, we start cleansing the skin with an antimicrobial agent as it is very important to ensure the area is appropriately disinfected.

Profhilo injections are carefully mapped on the face with bio-aesthetic points  (BAP). These points depend on the area treated.  For the face this is five sites on each side of the face – the tops of cheeks, sides of the face, lines around the mouth, nasolabial folds and laughter lines.  For the neck this includes ten key sites. I then slowly and smoothly inject the profhilo (the key to ensuring discomfort is kept to a minimum!)

At the end of treatment I apply an anti-bruising cream to the area and discuss all of the aftercare that is important to ensure quick and safe healing!

As it is an injectable treatment, there can be mild discomfort when each site is treated – but this hasn’t ever stopped any of my clients!

The discomfort is short lived and the treatment usually only takes up to 20 minutes to complete.

Profhilo takes between 4-8 weeks to start working. Sometimes you can notice an a luminous effect in the first few days after treatment from the hyaluronic acid which hydrates the skin, but typically the overall improvement in the skin tone, texture and elasticity is seen after the second treatment which takes place at 4 weeks following the first treatment.

In my experience, best results are usually seen 4 weeks after the second treatment – so 8 weeks following initial treatment.

The reason it takes this long see results is that it takes time for the underlying skin to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin required to improved elasticity and quality of the skin.

No, the results of Profhilo only last up to 6 months and therefore it is not considered a permanent treatment.

If treatment is stopped, the face will return back to how to was prior to treatment.

The results from Profhilo can last up to six months, but this varies depending on the individual and their lifestyle choices. Looking after your skin by protecting it from the sun, following a good skincare regime, drinking lots of water and avoiding smoking and alcohol, may help to maintain your results for longer.

The recommended protocol (according to the manufacturer) to ensure maximum results is:

An Initial treatment, followed by a second treatment 4 weeks later, then one maintenance treatment every 6 months.

I personally recommend clients return at around 5 months after their last treatment to ensure they don’t accidentally leave it longer than 6 months. If a maintenance treatment is booked at 5 months and life gets busy (which it does!) and the appointment needs to be moved, this gives us a little bit of a leeway and can still perform the maintenance treatment within the suggested protocol recall times.

If maintenance treatment isn’t performed within 6 months of the last treatment, two initial treatments 4 weeks apart will be required to restart the Profhilo treatment.

Some clients choose to have their maintenance treatments more frequently i.e every 4 months as they feel this works well for them, which is absolutely fine.

Through skin hydration and improvement in the elasticity of the skin, it is needed possible that it can make you look younger. However the aim is to not make you look younger – but to look as refreshed and elegant as you can for your age.

Yes absolutely! It is one of the most common treatments I perform in all of the clinics I work in and clients love it.

Having had Profhilo treatment myself, I can also attest to its results in improving skin quality

Although Profhilo can soften the the appearance of wrinkles, I wouldn’t say Profhilo can get rid of wrinkles. It may be that you might require a combination of profhilo +/- Botox (read more here) or Dermal Filler (read more here) for an overall improved appearance of wrinkles. This will be discussed with you in depth at your initial consultation so we can choose the right treatment plan for your needs.

Profhilo isn’t directly injected beneath the eyes, however, the standard BAP protocol of five injection sites ensures that profhilo reaches this area to help rejuvenate the under eye skin.

You may see other injectors perform profhilo directly under the eyes, however this deviates away from the recommended protocol and therefore increases any potential risks associated with treatment.

Safety is always my priority.

Although no treatment is completely risk free, Profhilo has undergone extensive clinical testing and trials to ensure its safety.

The injection is made with 100% hyaluronic acid and no added chemicals. As it is biocompatible, it will not cause any harm to your facial tissue.

Clients often ask why the profhilo isn’t injected in other areas i.e below the eyes. The BAP five site treatment protocol has been created to ensure best possible results with lowest possible risk. Deviating away from this treatment protocol, increases the risk of complications, which is why it is essential to visit an appropriately trained medical professional that prioritises safety and sticks to the recommended protocol.

All risks will be discussed with you thoroughly at your consultation.

There is no major downtime associated with treatment, but I will be honest and say that it’s likely that you will notice some raised areas on your skin following treatment, so you may feel more comfortable keeping a low profile for the next 24 hours!

There isn’t any discomfort after treatment, just a period of time to allow the raised areas to settle. The aftercare details will be discussed thoroughly with you at your initial consultation.

For the first 24 hours after treatment it is best to avoid:

  • Alcohol
  • Physical strain and sports/exercise
  • Touching the face
  • Make up
  • Rubbing the face
  • Aspirin/Ibuprofen

For two weeks following treatment it is best to avoid:

  • Saunas
  • Steam rooms
  • Direct sunlight
  • Facials / Chemical Peels / Microdermabrasion
  • IPL/Laser treatments
  • Dental procedures
  • Dermal Filler Treatments

If you do have any other treatments scheduled, please inform me at your consultation so we can ensure we create a treatment plan that incorporates these treatments to achieve the best results, in a safe manner.

All Aftercare will be discussed in detail at your appointment.

Profhilo, although classed as a filler, works very differently to traditional fillers that are used in the cheeks lips etc. Profhilo is uncrosslinked – meaning that it isn’t designed to add volume or change structure of the face but instead spreads across the skin to stimulate elastin and collagen production.

I believe it is a fantastic treatment to provide a boost to the overall skin and act as a canvas which can then be enhanced further by combining botox and dermal filler treatment – where necessary. This will depend on individual treatment aspirations, which may mean that Profhilo alone is enough to give the desired results the client seeks.

Filler treatments are designed to restore volume loss and enhance the structure of the face rather than target the quality of the skin itself so it is fantastic for clients who have volume loss or deeper lines requiring support as a result of ageing.

For more information on dermal fillers click here.

I do not recommend Profhilo and Dermal Filler treatments being performed on the same day. To ensure safety, I like to allow 2-4 weeks following Profhilo treatment for any Dermal Filler work to be carried out.

As these are two different treatments that achieve different results, it is difficult to compare them against each other.

Whilst Profhilo utilises hyaluronic acid to target the skin itself to help with the appearance of fine lines and hydration through collagen and elastin production, Botox is a neurotoxin that relaxes the underlying muscles that form wrinkles when contracting i.e frowning.

The effects of botox can usually be seen within a few days (for more information on botox click here) whereas Profhilo is a more gradual treatment that shows improvement of the skin over 4-8 weeks.

However results from Profhilo last slightly longer at 4-6 months in comparison to botox which is approximately 3-4 months.

To decide which treatment is best suited to you, I would need to understand your individual concerns and expectations which can help me guide you to the best treatment for your needs.

Profhilo can be used alone for those who are not yet ready for botox treatment or for those who have never had injectable treatments before and would like to start enter the world of injectables but are a little apprehensive.

It is common for most clients to have both of these treatments as they compliment each other very well and can be performed on the same day. Both have very little downtime involved.

The prices for Profhilo at SKN Clinics in Nottingham are:

*Please note: Profhilo requires two initial treatments spaced 4 weeks apart followed by a 6 month single maintenance treatment.

My clients value discretion and feel reassured by the fact that as I am highly confidential, their treatment photos remain stored securely and will not be posted publicly.

Having worked as an aesthetic doctor for 5+ years, I have never used before and after photos to promote any of my services. The results I achieve are based on trust in my expertise and when a client is happy they have the freedom to speak about their experience with whom they choose to, which is much more valuable to me than posting their photos.

I also believe that each and every client is unique and this is reflected in the results they achieve, therefore showing you photographs of other clients can give you an unrealistic expectation as their face is very different to yours.

However if you are wanting to see the kinds of results achieved with Profhilo, you can visit www.profhilo.co.uk where you can see before and after photos provided by other medical injectors.
